Aston Martin V12 Zagato: Italian Elegance Meets British Brute Force

Some companies really know how to celebrate. Take AstonMartin and Zagato, for example. The iconic British sports car maker and the legendary Italian coachbuilder will mark the 50th anniversary of their first collaboration with a brand new study.
To honor their first joint project, the 1961 DB4GT Zagato, the two companies developed the Aston Martin V12 Zagato, a race car study that will be unveiled on May 21 at the Villa D'Este Concorsod'Eleganza in Italy, where it will compete against the Ferrari Superamerica 45. But this elegant and dramatic coupe was not built for classy Concours d'Elegance events alone, as it will actually race at the Nurburgring 24 Hour event on June 25-26.

Aston Martin and Zagato Reunite, will Show New Car at Villa DEste Concours

This year, the iconic Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato celebrates its 50th anniversary, and to mark the event, the British automaker and the famous Italian design house have joined forces once again to create a new project that could very well head to production. The new collaboration between Aston Martin and Zagato will be revealed in concept form at the forthcoming Villa DEste Concours on May 21 to gauge initial customer reaction with a view to a production model following as early as 2012.
For the time being, and aside from the teaser rendering, we dont get any additional information on the new Aston Martin Zagato but word has it that it could be based on the mechanical hardware and platform of the current V8 Vantage.

Zagato Perana Z-One, 2009

Zagato Perana Z-One, 2009

Zagato is launching an exciting World Premiere on the occasion of the 2009 Geneva Motor Show: the Zagato Perana Z-One (Zee-One).
The sports car Zagato Perana Z-One signals the first collaboration of the Milanese Coachbuilders with a South African Vehicle Manufacturer: Perana Performance Group.

The Perana project is the result of Zagato's 90 year-long expertise in constructing fully functional running concepts. Virtual reality development has been integrated from inception, effectively eliminating the need for the traditional styling model and enabling the prototype to be completed in less than 4 months by the South African team.

Design Concept
As the latest descendant of the Zagato sports car family, Z-one is designed with full blooded Zagato form language.
Reflecting this pure passion from this brand new sports car specialist, the proportion and volume of Z-one is even tighter than usual sports car styling, accentuated by couple of long and dynamic curves with keen edge which visually integrate some important design features like the air out-lets. Surfaces defined by those cutting edges are even more sculptured maintaining the modern Zagato line which we have been developing for a decade.

Initiative
Following in the footsteps of Zagato's long tradition of masterfully designed cars, the Zagato Perana Z-One is no mere dream car, but a thoroughly practical and feasible production proposition that is expected to be available for sale to discerning European buyers by July 2009.
The Zagato Design Centre has styled the Zagato Perana Z-one to ensure it is built as a limited series production car. Sales will be limited to 999 cars per annum within Europe to assure exclusivity and to commemorate the 90 years of Zagato design.

Complying with Euro 4 emission legislation, this value proposition is expected to be launched at the introductory price of under 50.000 Euros, before taxes - an irresistible and highly competitive offer.

Technical Development
From the innovative tubular and box section chassis to the exciting interior styling, the Zagato Perana Z-One is a concentration of advanced design and engineering. Fully certifiable for the road, this ultra high-performance, front engined sports coup uses a powerful 6.2 litre V8 engine that drives the rear wheels. This genuine 2-seater coup, enjoys the benefits of almost 50/50 weight distribution allowing for exhilarating, balanced and predictable road manners.

Zagato TZ3 Stradale: A Dodge Viper ACR Dressed as an Alfa Romeo

We dont know if Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionnes future plans for the upcoming, next generation of the Dodge Viper include the development of a corresponding Alfa Romeo model based on the underpinnings of the muscle car, but famed Italian coachbuilder Zagato has given the formula a try with its new TZ3 Stradale.

You see, Zagatos TZ3 Stradale is an Alfa Romeo bodied sports car based on the platform and mechanical hardware of the track-conquering Dodge Viper ACR, which features the same 600HP 8.4-liter V10 engine as the standard Viper SRT-10 along with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a race-spec suspension. All parts of the TZ3 Stradales carbon fiber body are new with the cherry topping being the classic Kamm-tail (K-tail) layout.

Zagato Perana Z-One

2009 Geneva Auto Show Zagato Perana Z-One

The Zagato Perana Z-One will see limited production (just under 1000 units with a price upward of $100,000) and was shown with a LS3 6.2-liter V-8 under the hood. The same engine in top trim when fitted to the Corvette LS3 is rated at 435 bhp. Zagato is aiming for 060 mph acceleration of about 4 seconds.

The overall shape of the car is striking for its similarity to the Ford Shelby GR-1 concept shown at the North American International Auto Show four years ago. The difference is in the details. The nose of the Perana Z-One is far more Italian in execution, with pontoon style fenders and a front grille opening reminiscent of early Ferrari Testarossas and the 250 GTO. Unlike the Daytona Coupe-like rear end of the GR-1, the Perana Z-One has a more conventional rounded rear with large, hooded taillamps. The fenders feature triangular openings and the hood has a semi-circular vent. And of course, the 2-seater sports Zagato's signature double-bubble roof treatment.
